しかし、最近はスマホ決済（けっさい）などのキャッシュレス化が進んでいるため、新しいお札を手に取る機会（きかい）が減（へ）っています。私はいまだに、新しいお札を見ると「おもちゃのお札」のような不思議（ふしぎ）な感覚（かんかく）になってしまいます。
なぜ「人の顔」が使われるのか
お札には世界中で「人の顔（肖像画：しょうぞうが）」が使われていますが、これには理由があります。
人間は、他人の顔のわずかな違（ちが）いを認識（にんしき）する能力（のうりょく）が高いと言われています。そのため、偽造（ぎぞう：偽物を作ること）された時に気づきやすいのです。新しいお札には、最新（さいしん）のホログラムや透（す）かし技術も使われていて、偽造を防（ふせ）いでいます。
「アニメのキャラクターをお札にしたら面白いのに」と思うかもしれませんが、人間の方が偽造しにくいという理由で、これからも偉人の顔が選ばれそうです。
お札の歴史と多様性（たようせい）
日本でお札が使われ始めたのは1885年。これまでで最も多く登場したのは「聖徳太子（しょうとくたいし）」という人物です。
最近では女性の活躍（かつやく）も反映（はんえい）されています。2024年のリニューアルでは、5000円札に「津田梅子（つだうめこ）」という女性が抜擢（ばってき）されました。彼女は女子教育（じょしきょういく）の先駆者（せんくしゃ）として有名です。
